Got the bus to Hanalei, then hitched the 8miles to Haena Beach Park. Got a lift with a bloke called Shannon, who was originally from New Orleans but had managed to grab a bag of stuff and jump in his truck to get away just before Hurricane Katrina hit. Shannon gave us lots of good advice about the Na Pali hike, like set off as early as possible and pointers to a couple of the most hazardous bits etc. Good man.

Shannon dropped us off at the beach park and it started to rain so we dived into one of the shelters. Turns out not only do they have lights they also have spare sockets for leccy, no way! Hung out and waited for the rain to go off, got chatting to a few others staying at the park.

There's always a few beach park residents, one day a week each park is closed to try to stop people from staying long term but there's always a few folk that manage to duck and dive. They take over a pavillion and set up home - with TV and other home comforts! Well with free leccy - no wonder!

Once the rain went off, we went a walk down the beach for the sunset . The Na Pali coastline was looming in the background...
