Got off the plane and Paula is straight into the Aloha spirit . We had booked a nice place on the north shore of the Island at Sharks Cove which was about an hour on the bus. We were concerned about getting on the bus because we'd read about people not being allowed on the buses with rucksacks, but thankfully it is not a rule that they enforced otherwise we would have had to hire a car (or so we thought at the time).

Got off the bus at the bus stop that the owner told us to at Sharks Cove and called the owner from the laptop to get the rest of the directions which were not inlcuded in the email that he had sent us desribing how to get to the North Shore. When Paula spoke to him we were about 100m from the place we were looking for. He started to tell her how to get there by saying "look at the mountain on your left, you go right". Even though we were on a road that had the beach on the other side of it, eliminating half of the directions we could go in, he managed to pick the mountains that ran along the land right behind us, as a reference point. So I tried to get Paula to find out if we walk in the direction of the bus or if we go back the way we came, at this point she was having problem communicating with him which we thought was due to the traffic noise in the background but then he said "Can you speak in English?" we got cut off at that point.

So we decided to walk further down the road in the direction that the bus was going and found the house on the main road and another bus stop outside it! On the front door was a notice saying that they were in the back and just to chap to get there attention, we chapped, and then battered with increasing intensity. So proceeded to look for keys that he told us in his email would be in an envelope on the porch, there were 6 porches and no keys. There was a large house at the front with 2 porches, two separate buildings at the rear with 2 porches. The building we were staying in was supposedly called Manuka Home but we found out later it was referred to as the back house! We asked some people who were staying there whether they knew about any keys being left and nobody knew anything. After 40min of trying to phone the owner and him not answering we got through and he said he'd left the keys on the porch of the main house IN THE PLANT POT. Why he couldn't have told us this in the email that he sent us in the first place I will never know and the fact that he must give directions to his place constantly as there are about 7 different rooms he lets out. Anyway to cut a long rant short, we got in and had a nice night; after several hours and beers managed to get over the stupidity of this guy.

The next night there was another incident involving John, the owner, but we will spare you that rant.
