Well we didn't last in the dodgy motel - flash flooding was forecast for Friday so it would have been difficult to get to Monument Valley which is a real shame as I was looking forward to that.  We were also slightly 'motelled out' and looking forward to seeing Rob and Steph and their kids so we decided to leave a day early and get straight out to Denver.  It was a pretty long drive - probably around six hours which is probably our longest yet.  Was a great drive though - loads of thunder and lightning going off all around and great scenery.  We drove through the Rockies past Vail and Breckenridge, remembering when we were here in 2004 in winter - looked a bit different with no snow on the ground.  We finally made it to Rob and Steph's house at about 8pm and Rob made us a burger on the barbie - perfect.

We spent a fantastic week with the guys - met baby Jake who is six months old and caught up with Lauren (4) and Alison (3).  We had great fun joining in with dance recitals and listening to Disney princess songs.  Steve and Rob went clay pigeon shooting, we all went out for a meal and watched two films back to back at the cinema, visited Boulder and ate a fair amount of ice cream.  Rob took us to the pistol range where Steve discovered a natural talent for shooting zombies and I realised that I don't do guns.  In fact, as soon as the guy next to us shot his pistol the first time, I jumped out of my skin and went to wait in the car.  Don't think I stopped shaking for half an hour.

One of the highlights for us was that Rob managed to score top tickets to a Colorado Rockie's baseball game and we went there on our final evening.  We had a buffet meal and got free snacks - sunflower seeds, M&Ms, nachos etc and sat right next to the home dugout.  I've always wanted to go to a ball game and this really lived up to my expectations.  The atmosphere was great and I understood more of it than I thought I would.  Plus the Rockies won so that always helps!  Not sure I can go back to the cheap seats now that we've been spoilt though!

It's our last day today and we're packing up - we've had to borrow a suitcase so we can get all our purchases home - Steve is horrified.  It's been thunder and lightning all week so reckon Rob and Steph will be glad to see the back of us so the sunshine can come back.  It feels strange to think we'll be sleeping in our own bed tomorrow night but also really exciting to think we'll be seeing everyone at home and cuddling the cats.
