Dear Nae, after the "great ant wars" and all the poisons still laying around, both  my sister Lynn and I decided to vacate the her home for a while.  Lynn went to her sweeties and I decided to go back to Max's in Great Falls, South Carolina again.  We had such a pleasant time last visit, I thought we'd enjoy several more days.
I was right.  :-)  It turned out to be a very nice visit full of normal happenings.  Great Falls is such a nice, sleepy, little town; however, as in any town, it's the people that make up the personality.  Sticks and stones and mortar put together precisely can certainly help make an interesting court square, but the personality comes only from its inhabitants.   I met Max's best friends and she has a comfortable number of really great friends.  All her immediate friends are quality people who make up a solid layer of good citizens.
You ask what makes up a "good citizen"?  I suppose it would be those who take part in the health of this little town.  Simply put, they care.   They care about where the city is headed and are attempting to devise plans that may catch the financial winds of some oncoming Catawba River improvements.  Some think that these new ideas may create world-wide kayaking opportunities.  I am scheduled to partake in some of it Sunday afternoon.  More to come on that, but back to what makes a city tick.  I've been thinking about this.  It even goes beyond "good people".  It elevates to those who have faith in a cities potential.  It may even go into areas of blind faith.  It's almost like having faith in a child who is in the midst of growing up.  Working with small cities could almost be the same.  Their needs to be a group of people around who are willing to help take part in the "first step" with new ideas.  Not an easy task with small pocketbooks/budgets!  Mom's and Dad's who recognize the potential and continue to push to excellence.  Max lives next to the previous mayor.  He seems to love this town dearly.  I am sure he almost considers Great Falls his own child.  It takes grit to be a mayor-especially that of a small place.  I'm sure it requires just as much work as a big city without the armies of helpers willing to stay behind and work.
Maxine truly loves her town.  And I can now see why.  It's because she is literally a part of its daily existence.  She feels it's growing pains and readily takes part in it's successes.
Thanks Great Falls!  It was a relaxing stay and I found some jewel's in personalities here!
Thanks again Max!

Thanks Fred for such a loving tribute to our little town. You, yourself, have brought another layer of sunshine to our community. Sometimes it takes a stranger to see the real potential, not only in people, but communities as well to grow and mature for the betterment of life. We all love you here and will "swing open the gates" for your next visit.
May God continue to be with you wherever you are led.
Love you old friend--
Your "bestest" bud, Max

Glad you're getting used to sleepy little towns..........This one will seem quite similar and just as green without the heat, maybe.

We personally wanted to thank you for your visit and interest in Great Falls. I'm glad we had a nice day on Fishing Creek, and hope we did not bore you with all the history. Best of luck on the remainder of your Great Adventure from your pals at Dearborn Kayak!!!
