Today was such a great day
! I woke up a little late and headed to Unawatunna Beach. It was about 10 KM south of where I was staying and it was amazing. One of my top 10 beaches. It obviously can't compare to Roatan or Guam, but was very nice, quiet, laid back, big waves. The water was not super clean, but swimmable and warm. I stayed there for about 3 hours, then headed up North of Galle about 20 KM and went to another famous beach called Hikkaduwa, but it was very quiet. The monsoon season started about a week ago, so the tourism is declining rapidly and the same thing is happening in India. Sri Lanka is so quiet. I love it. I'm not sure if it's really amazing or it just seems good compared to India. I did get a few people come up to me and try to sell me things, but I just blew them off. I did get to walk the beaches of Hikkaduwa, but it started raining, so I had to head back to Galle at about 430 and that was pretty much my day. I did really enjoy relaxing. I will have time for the history later and all that, but for now, this is exactly what I need.
I decided to go South to Galle. It's a little over 100 km away and it took 3.5 hours. Ugg. Too long for such a short distance. I had another man come to me outside the bus station and ask if he could help me and I said no, but he kept bugging me and insisting he didn't want any money. He took me to a hotel inside the fort, which was owned by his cousin, then at the end of it, wanted money to buy a beer. I told him that I would be fair and if he were to come to USA, I'd help him find a hotel. He laughed and became angry. He kept asking me to buy him a beer. He said it's not possible for him to come to USA, but I said sure it is. You can hassle tourist for 3 months and you'll have plenty of money if you stop spending the money they give you on beer. He was quite angry, but I was sick of people wanting money from me. It was so quiet in Galle. It was nice. I just ate dinner outside of the fortress at night because it was cheaper, then went to bed.
