Ras Mohammed was the first national park in all of Egypt.  It is a 15 minute drive from
Sharm El Sheikh.  My van was full of Russian tourists.  I was one of two non-Russians in the van.  Claire decided to relax and read her book by the pool today.  This was the first time we have spent a minute apart since we met almost 4 weeks ago.  There are two ways to get
to Ras Mohammed and that is by boat or bus.  I chose bus because boat does not see any of the sites on the land.  Our first stop was the Gate of Allah.  In all of the brochures for tourism, they call this the Gate of God.  This helps attract the Western tourists.  If they were to call it the Gate of Allah, a lot of Christian or Catholics would not come here.  So to locals, this is called
the Gate of Allah and to foreigners, it is called Gate of God and this way is to help cater to both.  The gate is a few towering rocks that make up a gate.  It is clear the rocks were somewhat carved at some point, but it still made for a good entry way into the park.  From here, we did a snorkel trip that took about an hour.  It was roughly the same kind of fish we saw yesterday near Tiran Island,
but I think the corals were a bit better here.  The next stop was a tree that is supposed to turn the salt water into fresh water.  This was not so impressive and I ddin’t totally understand this, but it is one of the only trees in the world that grows in salt water.  Supposedly you can taste the salt in its leaves.  We saw a river canyon that was formed by earthquakes almost 40 years ago and that was interesting.  There is a lake here that is called the magic lake.  It changes colors depending on the
time of the day.  It has a different color in the morning, afternoon and sunset.  It is compared to the Dead Sea because it is really salty.  The last stop was another snorkel spot.  It was not so impressive and one of the 3 spots that the boats usually stop at.
