Suzhou is a city on a river in China. I believe it is either the Yangtze or Yellow River. They tried to recreate this city to be like Venice Italy. There are many canaled cities near Shanghai and this was the first of two that I went to. China simply can not recreate things very well. They tried to recreate Vegas with Macau and did a horrible job. They tried to recreate Venice and did quite a horrible job also. I went to the famous Royal Imperial Gardens. It cost nearly $10 to see a garden and it was nothing impressive. The gardens do have some decent flowers and ponds with little small Chinese type temple things that hover above the water and make for a quiet relaxing time. There are free parks ten times as good in about every other country in the world. If you are looking for doing tourist things for cheap, China or Suzhou is not your place. Travel is cheap in China, but tourism is definitely not. The canals here are very dirty and smelly. They circle the city center, so the city center is sort of an island. Parts of the city center are interesting, but most of it is just dumpy China.
