I woke up early at 6 AM and caught the first train to Prague. It was a 6 hour train ride. I was in Prague at 12:30. I was not at central station when I arrived. It was a bad part of town with a lot of bums where no one spoke English. I took a wild guess on where to go and had really bad directions. I just had an address. I must have a pretty good GPS system in my head now because I landed pretty darn close to the hostel. I walked around town with a guy named Andy who was from California but studying in Spain. There was the same old stuff as the other cities. It had cool statues, buildings, churches and a river in the center of the city with a famous bridge. There were people skating on the rivers and playing hockey. Czech Republic must be a big hockey country
. I took a nap and went out to the biggest club in Europe called Karlovy Lazne. There was 5 floors in the club. The first floor was all rap, so the first floor was dominated by black people. The 2nd
floor was a lounge. The 3rd
floor was techno, so those people were all on ecstacy and tweakers. The 4th
floor is 80s remixes and that was the rest of the group, but consisted of mostly foreigners. It was Christmas Eve and I thought it was funny that there was mother/daughters going to the club to get some good quality time together. I guess that is how the families bond out here. The bartenders always asked to keep change. The only beer I drank was 12% which is more than twice of strong beer in the U.S. It was the only cheap beer in the place and came out to like $1.80 in U.S. Money. I paid with a 5 and he asked to keep the change. I said no, so he gave me change in all nickels because he was pissed. I got back at him and paid with nickels the next beer I bought. My bunkmate named Johan was a pretty cool guy and I left at 3AM and I decided I was a little intoxicated and he should guide us home. I was kind of scared because Prague is known as a dangerous city, but no one messed with us. We walked around for an hour and I was like no more. I'm getting a taxi. He agreed and we passed the club we were partying at within 50 feet, so we did a complete circle and ended up right back where we started.
I woke up at 9:45 and got some breakfast then went to the train station with Johan. He was headed to Innsbruck Austria. I knew there was going to be anything to do in town
. This was the third dead day in a row because of the holidays. I decided to change my ticket to Krakow. I was supposed to leave tomorrow, but I decided to leave on an overnight train so that I would be able to see more there tomorrow in Krakow. I came back to the hostel and bought a calling card so that I could call my parents. I usually talk to my folks every night, but I hadn't talked to them in over a week, so I felt like christmas was a must. We talked for about 10 minutes and they had to go because they had a christmas party at their house and had to go. They were the only people that I called. I walked around town with some Latin Americans. There was one from Brazil, one from Mexico and I can't remember where the other was from. We saw most of the town. We went to the castle and the top of a mountain where they had like an eiffel tower type thing. We could see the whole city from the top of the mountain, but it wasn't that cool. I went to a mirror museum when I was up there. That was pretty weird. I went back to my hostel after that and used the free internet access and made sure that I made it to the train station early for my train that took off later that night. I wrote a lot when I was there waiting there was a lot of bums circling me and asking me for money. I said no, but I was kind of scared that they were going to rob me. I saw one man give the bum money and he went straight to the casino in the train station and stuck it in a slot machine. I caught my train and fell asleep immediately.
