Day 16

I woke up 630 AM and caught the first bus to Melacca. Melacca is the last place that I really haven't seen on the mainland of Malaysia.  Most people do it in a day trip from KL, but I wanted to do it in a overnight trip, so I spent the night here with Claire, who I previously met a few weeks ago in Kuala Lumpur.  The road system in Malaysia is not great, but a lot better than India.  There are not many freeways, but I can see why they don't need freeways with such a small country.  Melacca is a world heritage site city.  It's an ancient city and a bit different than the rest of Malaysia.  The building are different because it was founded by the Dutch, Portugese and British.  They started a little colony here.  I saw the river, fountain in the main square, an old cathedral, tombs of the explorers, cannons and walking the cobblestone streets with old buildings.  We found a mall, saw a movie and ate some dinner, then had a few drinks.  The first drink was on the waterfront.  It was a nice area and the lights on the sidewalk lit up the river.  There were boats going up and down the river with a lot of people in it and they were always waving.  It was very relaxing.  I didn't drink more than one glass.  The person taking our order asked if we were on our honeymoon.  We were very happy together.

Day 17

I woke up early and went to catch our bus to KL.  It was a little more complicated than expected.  I had to get on the tram when we arrived the terminal and take it 3 stations down to KL Sentral station and get to the hotel.  I had to leave to the low cost airport the following day and Kl Sentral was the most convenient way to get there.  There was not a whole lot to do today.  I wanted to go to Genting Highlands, but it didn't happen.  It started raining. I was happy to spend the rest of the day with Claire sharing stories and her peeling all of the dead skin off my back from get burnt so badly in Perhentian Islands.  I was also a bit sick for some reason, so it was best to not go outside.
