The rain stopped at about 7am then it drizzled for a few more hours. My tent location was under heavy foliage and I could pack everything while not getting too wet. As I was not allowed to cycle on the highway, I visited the local police station for a route alternative. One of the officers was an avid cyclist and decided to drive home to get me some proper detailed maps of the region. After a few minutes, he returned and showed me many routes with panoramic views. The secondary route proposed was pleasant with rolling hills through vineyards and farmland. I stopped quickly for a doughnut in a local store then proceed onward in the high wind. The road was very hilly and I was on the side of the highway most of the afternoon. The wind was so strong it reminded me of Southern Patagonia. Once I stepped in the agriculture pueblo of Guadalupe, I was sad to find out that no camping was there. I found myself wondering what to do as the next campground was 16miles away. In these circumstances, the best thing to do is to stop and grab a gatorade and a chocolate bar. A gentleman started a conversation with me and we chatted for a few minutes. Explaining my problem with the wind and the extra 16 miles to the nearest camping, he kindly offer to take me half way up the road as he was going that direction anyway. He actually saved me 12 miles out of 16 which was great.

I found the state park camping ground at Pismo Beach, the only one allowing tent camping as the other ones were reserved for RVs only. After setting up the tent, I walk down to the beach and watch the sunset seating on a dead tree. It was a beautiful sunset and I really enjoyed it for once. Upon getting ready to go for a shower, a lovely girl came from the camp site across from me and offered me a plate of chicken and vegetables for my dinner as I looked "lonely". How sweet!!! It turned out to be a lovely evening as I shared the evening with 2 young couples and we chatted for a few hours eating and sharing some beers. Can I say I love touring???
