Near the end of the 16 hour flight from JFK to Hong Kong I promised myself that I'd keep to the Americas from now on. Actually, once I got here and began to experience this incredible city I forgot all about the pain and hassle. This place is awesome! Just like being in a Jackie Chan movie.
Food, great food, is everywhere! And I can even find healthy food, although it is usually stir fried. Sex is everywhere, too. From the taxi driver taking me from the airport and the bellhop taking me to my room to the women on the streets, sex is in your face.
Let's see...food, sex, what else, oh yeah, temples, buddhas, and pictures of the beloved King. Thailand is a constitutional monarchy and everyone loves the King. In fact, say something disparaging about him and you will end up in jail
I found Mark and Gerre, my close friends from back home, not long after I arrived. They were in bed sleeping, but...anyhow, we made plans for the following day and I finally hit the bed one tired puppy. Bankok is exactly 12 hours ahead of EST so when it is midnight here it is only noon time the day before back home. My body clock is totally screwed up. I had dinner last night at 10 pm and went to bed at 1am. Totally out of wack for me.
On Saturday Mark, Gerre, and I took a river boat taxi and visited the Grand Palace. On the way Mark and I got scamed by a monk, the one in the picture. I gave him $15 and asked for change. He refused to give it, instead gave me beads, smiled, and ran off. Later we had lunch, I paid, for all three of us, including sodas, it cost $4.50. I love the vegetable Pad Thai here. Today I ordered a salad, a basic salad and it comes steamed, even the lettuce.
Flying out of here tomorrow for the Islands and beachs. Three days in the city is more than enough for me.
