Ko Samui is Thailand's 3rd largest island & is noted for its superb beaches, some of the finest snorkeling in Asia, Buddhist Temples, trained monkeys who can harvest 1000 coconuts per day & elephants.
Our ship anchored off the island & I was one of the first onboard the shuttle boat. Ursula, the ships doctor's wife, was also onboard. At the pier, we found a pickup truck with seats for 10 in the back. The driver offered to take us around the island for $10. each. We offered to help fill his truck so we selectively chose favorite passengers to join us. Soon, the 10 of us were off & away for a tour around the island. We passed on seeing the Big Buddha, a huge golden statue, as we've seen them before (this is day 63, there are several big buddhas on the ship now).
We stopped at Chaweng Beach for a swim & some shopping (I opted for a icy frappachino at Starbuck's), then drove on to the Na Muang waterfall where we also saw elephants. We returned to the pier with time to catch the last shuttle-the tour took all day.
We are cruising along the southern Malasian coast now & will arrive in Singapore in the morning.
