Mar. 12th: We arrived in Bangkok, Thailand, a country the people call Muang Thai-"land of the free". Bangkok is a place where graceful dancers perform in shimmering silk gowns, temples with gold-leaf spires harbor beautiful Buddhas & riverboats cruise a maze of canals. The only thing it didn't have was cool weather. It was 84 degrees with 85% humidity.
Laem Chabang is about 2+ hours from Bangkok so I had to take a Princess bus to get there. I saw the Grand Palace, the Reclining Buddha Temple (Wat Pho) & the Emerald Buddha Temple on a previous trip & since I am "Templed out", I opted to do Bangkok on my own.
Friends Nancy & Joyce asked me to join them. Nancy's 23 yr. old grandson, Andrew, is an English teacher in Bangkok & was meeting them. Yes, of course, I'd love to join them!
Andrew hailed a taxi & we toured a bit of Bangkok, stopped at an upscale shopping center, then had lunch at a hole in the wall Thai cafe. Andrew often ate there & we let him order the food. It was excellent. We did some more shopping & walking, then took a taxi back to the shuttle bus stop. Andrew filled us in on the latest Thai news (rats are a delicacy, criticizing the King will land you in jail & there's nothing quite like a Thai massage).
So, short trip to Bangkok & we are now enroute to Ko Samui, Thailand.
