Where I stayed
A slight change from the original plan to head for the west coast, staying up late and reading we picked Pondicherry, the French quarters,South from where we were in Chennai although arriving here in a slightly quieter coastal town we almost missed the real Indian chaos.
We decided to play a bit harder with the haggling that morning and took our rickshaw to Chennai Egmore rail station, but ended up latching onto a friendly Indian who understood we were pretty lost in more ways than one, he put us on the right bus to the cmtb bus station paid for our tickets, even until the end where he walked us to correct long haul coach to pondi he was adamant he wanted to pay for our tickets, finally giving in and taking the 8 rupees for the tickets but still paying the 4 for our luggage, we couldn't believe it...
The bus journey was yet another first/experience and again were a bit puzzled by their ways, the ticket collector was moving people, women out of their seats for us to sit, which we declined but are still shocked by.
So new town, new sights, same old brilliant smells!? We arrived in pondicherry not really having a plan or a place to stay! We found a great little place, western toilet and toilet roll, for the equivalent of 5 pounds each.
This morning we have been to the beach thought we could walk it, walked for about an hour taking a detour through fishing village right on the beach on the edge of town (or got lost in other words) which was nice to see, walked for miles to find it...and still ended up getting a rickshaw the last 4km....we are going to become very fit!! Claires feet are in bits!
We haven't really experienced the whole Indian food for breakfast lunch and dinner..yet. so far we have had KFC, subway, chips and some French food!? All been good!
So tomorrow evening we move on, we will be getting a train for the first time so it shall be yet another experience under our belts! Hopefully, the overnight journey to the southernmost tip of India!
