At four months in, I was feeling a little blue so I went to the foreigner's bar for a few drinks with a friend, and end up meeting one of his bosses. She's young and successful, owning a hagwon (English school) at 28 years old is no easy task.

We had a fun time talking and were a little tipsy when she insisted we go to a club and recruited a couple other guys for the trip. So,  it was me, her, and some Texans named Chris and Peter (a strange group if I've ever seen one) going to a club named "Bliss".

We were stopped at the door when the bouncer recognized Chris as a troublemaker. We sweet talked the bouncer and promised no trouble and eventually, we got in... it was a pretty standard Korean night club: low light, tables and booths set up around a stage and dance floor. It kind of reminded me of how clubs look in old American movies. Upon seating, they insisted that we order a 30 dollar tray of fruit with 3 beers... it was a rip off, yes, but that's how they run things around here.

Long story short: the lady decided she wanted to dance so Peter and I accompanied her to a near-empty dance floor, hoping to remedy the situation but were quickly grabbed by the bar staff and brought on stage for reasons unknown. Shortly after some locals joined us - guys on stage right, girls on stage left. I'm pulled to the front of the stage, a spotlight comes on and I'm told to dance.... I shrug and oblige until I'm stopped ten seconds into it by the MC who says "no no no no no... SEXY DANCE" I shrugged and began unbuckling my belt. The reaction in the room was priceless. I winked and tried to dance again, purposely dancing silly, hoping that charisma would make up for my lack of moves. Thankfully Peter didn't do any better, and we both 'got served' by some locals in the first round. Our lady friend managed to finish in 2nd or 3rd place and won us some scotch... so we drank and danced the rest of the night - learning valuable mathematical equations:

If:

A = How attractive a girl is
B = Her ability to speak English
C = How many drinks she's had
D = Number of local guys who notice you talking to said girl and feel threatened by your whiteness and undeniable novelty.
E = Effort
X = Her interest level in you.
Y = Your chances of holding her attention for more than 2 minutes.

Then:

As A increases, B decreases
and
as C increases, B decreases even further

However:

As C increases so does X and Y

But:

As D increases, and it does at an alarming rate, Y drops considerably.

This is one of MANY reasons I've always hated math. Life is complicated enough as is.
