Ko Pha Ngan
Entry 23 of 32 | show all | print this entry |
We arrived in Ko Phagnan, famous for its Full Moon Party, Half Moon Party, Black Moon Party, Pre Moon Party and whoever else decided to cash in on the whole lunar cycle party gig, after an hour an a half ferry from Ko Tao which was fine for some not others. Jen puked the whole way on the boat as it mounted waves and crashed down the otherside, I managed to sleep the whole way somehow. We stayed on Haad Rin for the first half of our week there which is where most of the debauchery on the island takes place and where most of the development has been on the island, giving it a sort of Magaluf feel (its not that bad really). The beach there was nice and wide and the [attern of our days was similar to that of Ko Tao ie sunbathe all day, drink buckets of alcohol at night, literally. We managed to go to a pool paaty on our first night which was a lot of fun and the Half Moon Party a couple of nights later which was also great fun a;though for some reason while we were there everything appeared to close at 2AM, the nightlife perhaps a victim of its popularity. We moved on to the other side of the island to Had Yao, a much less busy bay with a long, beautiful beach wgere it was much easier to find a big stretch of sand to yourself and you didnt have to listen to 'Beautiful Girls' every half an hour. We stayed in the poshest place we've stayed so far in one of their cheap rooms (about 7.50) which was nevertheless, a really good value place considering we had a good view, a pool and best of all a room which didnt have dirty sheets or feet marks all over the walls- a phenomenon which isnt uncommon in budget digs here. The nightlife here consisted of a few bars on the beach and some superb seafood barbeques selling shark, iger prawns, fish and the like. Perhaps it was the time we had spent on Ko Tao, the great time we had had and people we had met which meant Ko Phagnan wasn't quite the same or perhaps its just that 3 weeks on abeach is enough for anyone but we got the itch to leave and so are headed to Krabi on the opposite coast of Thailand, a place famed for its...beaches. and islands.
