We decided to follow our noses, and then thankfully our GPS took over, and we sighed with relief when we successfully got to our RV site - which is effectively a parking lot with showers, right at the Harbour. So nothing flash, BUT, position plus, as the ferry over to the city, is right outside our door and the ride is 10 minutes and we're there - and we don't have to negotiate the New York streets
Day 1 - 3 November:
We chose to do yet another tour - quite simply because we wanted to get an oversee of the city and then we could return to some places, as we chose. Gary & I have actually been to New York before and so had some great expectations, and lets just say, we were not disappointed.
We started off at Central Park, with a memorial to John Lennon, right outside the apartmen block, in which he was shot. Yoko Ono still lives there, on the 7th floor. Probably the most moving place we visited today, would have to have been Ground Zero. A huge area, and our guide, who was born and bred in New York, is still, to this day, a little emotional about the whole thing, and spoke of the ongoing loss of lives and illness for those that worked through the rubble and abstetos, in the weeks following (despite the assurance that it was 'safe'). We also went past many fire stations, one in which every single man had been the victim of 911.
On a more positive note, we made a visit to Wall Street, and also the landmark of where George Washington, first took the oath. We've learnt so much about the history surrounding the American Presidents of late, and certainly with the upcoming election, it was quite significant.
With a stop at Pier 17 for a very quick lunch, we were off again, a look through Chinatown, Little Italy, Battery Park and so on.
By 4.00pm, it starts to get dark and it was time to go home, and we are proud to say, we worked out the somewhat confusing Subway system, for a quick walk to the ferry, and home.
