We got up late and, joy of joys, had bacon and eggs for breakfast. We wanted a lazy day so ambled down to the lakeside. On the way we have to pass many shops. Need I say more!!. This time it was me with the wallet out. The sales are on and I ended up buying a smart shirt for going out posh, a fleece because the one I brought with me is not warm enough, and a T-shirt. As each one was bought in a different shop, each purchase necessitated going back to the house to drop it off

However we finally made it down to Lake Windermere. We bought some food for the ducks but it turned out that these were the much larger Canada Geese and Mute Swans. They are so used to being fed that if they see a bag of bird seed in your hand they quite aggressively peruse it and will attack bags and pockets to get at it. They will take it from your hand although they do not have very good manners and tend to snatch.

A little further on we came across two people raising money or an owl sanctuary. They had tame owls with them - a Little Owl, two Barn Owls and a European Eagle Owl. These latter are huge being 2ft tall and with a 5ft wing span. They are reputed to be the most ferocious in the world and have been seen carrying a fox away. Guess who volunteered to hold one. Yes you are right, Tamara was not the one. It had been reared from young and was so placid it was unbelievable. T got a good photo on the camera but unfortunately not one on the iPad. They were about to pack up so we didn't get to handle the barn owl other than to see how soft the feathers were.

We then went for a coffee/tea but T started to feel unwell so we went home. The symptoms were similar to those she has had when she has had the bowel obstruction, so we kept our fingers crossed all night. It is a 45 minute drive to the nearest hospital.
