It's not going to be cheap to do it this way round. Especially when you consider that a round the world flight can be as cheap as 650 these days.

And it's not, as many people suspect, that we're scared of flying. Quite the opposite. In fact, I get seasick - which will be fun.

It's for the challenge, and for the achievement. It's not like nobody's done this kind of trip before, but that doesn't make it any less special.

Travel writer and all round medium-brow entertainer Peter Moore published a book about an overland trip from London to Sydney - and he cheated!

Both Vinny and myself have done a fair bit of travelling in the past, so we felt quite comfortable upping the stakes this time around.

It changes the experience too. Airports in less developed countries all look amazing - new, clean, comfortable and comforting. Train stations on the other hand are a different story. I don't think there's a better way to immerse yourself in a country's culture than to travel across it the way the locals do.

God, I'm starting to sound pretentious already.
