Show trip route
Taking a few hours in Lappeenranta to see the fortress buildings, with an old orthodox church and little shops with locally made stuff. Nice but very expensive! A visit at the TIC learned me that Ylämaa is the only place in Finland (and in the world!) where a beautiful gemstone is found! Spectrolite!
Since being introduced to gemstones by Andy and Donna I am hooked and as I am so near, definately wanted to visit this place and buy some. It really is a very special gemstone. Looking at it, it seems just black rock, but then suddenly when the light hids it at one angle, you see the most beautiful colours!!
See photos to get an idea, of course it looks even more impressive in real.
On to Imatra, to see the music/light show at the rapids. Somehow they sceduled it at 19.00 (when it is still very light!!!!!), so only music in the end! Had a 10 minutes look at the Dam being opened instead. Thrilling to most people, pretty boring to me.
This night I went to a campsite I knew was closed already. Hoped to be able to pitch my tent again anyway. Saves me from finding a wild camping spot. Turns out I was very lucky. Could pitch a tent, could use the tap, even charge my battery as the electricity pole was not locked and due to fact that 5 other Dutchies found an 'open' shower unit, even had a shower in the morning, WARM!!
Don't really understand why they are closed already anyway, in Holland this is still high season!
But not complaining, good for the budget!
This morning spending my time in the library again, doing FREE internet, so you have some more stories to read and photos to look at. After on my way to Savonlinna, which I intend to reach tonight!
