Saying goodbye to Golden Rock!
Back down the mountain we arrange a bus, well better say 'open minivan', to Pha-An. It is an adventure in itself with the road conditions (bad), people getting on, goods getting on board, more people getting on board, and more goods. Monsoon rain suprising us. But having fun as well. As we are in East Myanmar, closer to the Thai border, I am able to communicate in Thai language with some people. Little confusing for my brain though, as it is in the proces of learning Birma Language. We meet this lovely family who want to take us to see Little Rock, near Pha-An. Once at Little Rock we meet the old monk teacher of M., who invites us to sleep at his monestary. No official people around here to tell them off luckily. I sleep with the nuns in their little bamboo/leafs hut. Such nice people. That evening I get my first Buddhism lesson as the Chief Monk explains me about the basic rules of Buddhist life. Very interesting. Little by little I am to find out religion is part of peoples lifes here. Living by it, honouring their ancestors, thinking about future reincarnation and meetings in previous life. Respect, respect and respect. It means much more then only going to church once a week or reading the bible before going to bed. Even that is something only very few people (I know at least) do nowadays.
The next day we climb Mt Swegabin! Monestary and monkeys on the top! It is a STEEP climb, and the declining is even harder, on the knees! But the views are amazing. Also have a great time with some fellow climbers, a group of friends from Pha-An. One boy in particular was very keen on teaching some more Myanmar words. I loved our little transport car back into town. Tiny car but still able to carry 12 people!!! More thumbnails ...
