So here we are northeast of Montelimar in the foothills of the Alps, finally managed to find internet access, no sign of it anywhere we've been. Probably because it's mainly been mountains, gorges, rivers, lakes, forests and beaches, skipping around any bigger towns and the smaller ones always appear to be closed for business when we drive thru!?
It's been a full on three weeks between discovering that fnumena has plenty of quirks too many to mention here (but for example a fridge that will only turn on when it feels like it and a haunted passenger door lock that seems to open itself sporadically - scary!) and trying to settle into our new home, getting into the swing of life on the road in transition with ourselves each other and our environment. Scruff has been having a ball pretty much everywhere, except when we we're in the Dordogne and something must've bitten his tail and it was all wonky and broken for three days in which he seemed a little sorry for himself. It didn't stop him enjoying his swims in the lake to cool down tho! (a temporary heat wave) We spent those three days on a campsite (where it happened) we were everso worried and quite exhausted from the ferocious weather we'd been trying to get away from ever since Quiberon on the first night. Gale force winds and lashing rain, n we thought we'd left the rain in Ireland, only to hear the sun's splitting the rocks over there!

The boat over was smooth enough. Our cabin was fantastic, even had a power shower! Scruff wasn't so impressed with his hotel, though it must have been better than being locked in the van in with all the trucks (hot and stuffy) for 14 hours. It also meant I could go and see him as often as I wanted, which I didn't do too much as it was pretty distressing for all concerned, he had resigned himself to it by the end of the crossing tho.
Arrived really early, 7 oclock French time which gave us plenty of time to get our bearings. We stopped at a beautiful little town that had a nice sunny lake walk for scruff, a thunderstorm started growling halfway round, lightning flashing a warning that it was almost on top of us. Poor Scruff had just started to relax after the boat, made it into fnumena just as the rain came lashing down. We figured we'd have a nap, then some much needed food. It wasn't to be though, no sooner had we got undressed and relaxed into bed we started hearing motorbikes, one or two at first, turning into three, four then hundreds! They were all pulling into our peaceful little spot parking all around us. It turned out there was some kind of rally happening in the firestation across the road. We ended up having our nap and sarnie on the side of the road somewhere further along.

Apart from the few days in the Dordogne the weather's been pretty Irish (changeable) it hasn't stopped us having fun though.' We've seen a couple of caves, one we rode a miniature train through. I had a scary walk with Scruff along a precipice with a sheer drop into a wide murky river, wasn't intentional the path just disappeared n I wasn't about to go all the way back round. We've climbed a mountain and found a beautiful old village at the top. Swam in a couple of lakes and in the wind and rain in the med in the south of France and body boarded killer waves the next day.
Kayaked in the gorges d'ardeche, where we crashed and I did the rapids being dragged by my boat (ouch)!

We've eaten plenty of croissants, chocolat pains and baguettes, even had a couple of meals out, expensive and tricky to work out what we were getting (still not sure what some of it was) but it was worth it. So as you can see we've been so busy not even enough time to sit and read a book! By the time you're reading this we'll probably be off in the Alps on our way to Italy. Wish us luck! xxx
