I had a half day stop over in Kayseri before boarding the next (all night) bus heading to the eastern town of Erzurum. It seemed the perfect time to try and stock up on appropriate Muslim wear for Iran. All I knew was that as a woman I am obliged to wear headscarf and to cover the shape of my body, or risk being arrested in Iran. Not quite sure what to do, I headed into the shopping area of town. It didn't take too long to find a shop where they had a coat section at the back. The choices of colour were somewhat limited (pink, light green, baby blue and beige...) I picked out a beige knee length coat which the shop assistant assured me would be appropriate.

Next I headed in search of scarves. A nice man beckoned me into his shop and set about showing me what might suit me and how to tie (with a pin) my scarf. He was delighted at a lime green one I chose, and was pushing for me to wear it from that moment forward. The poor guy, I think he thought by wearing a headscarf I was going to become Muslim! All in all though, I was pretty happy with my purchases - and ready and roaring to be heading into Iran.

Kayseri itself is a beautiful town, surrounded by snow-capped mountains and still bearing the remains of an ancient city wall surrounding the central city area. More importantly, it wasn't too cold wandering around in the mid day sun. A lovely and most satisfying day!

Who Would Wear My Cast Off Clothes?
Too many people to wear someone else's cast off clothes would be distasteful, and many may say 'never in a million years'. BUT times are a changing, most folk are on a tight budget and really decent, quality clothes cost the earth, so buying clothes second hand makes real economic sense.
Sure there are charity and thrift shops around most street corner but the quantity and quality of goods on offer is often limited and time consuming.
