Hola!

There aren´t any of my own photos on this travelpod for a very good reason. My camera and bag and wallet were
stolen yesterday! Grrrr... The thief had managed to scale up to the balcony of the backpackers I am staying in, crept into the room while there were still people in there (!!), steal cameras, passports and wallets (including mine) then jumped back down and ran away - and nobody even noticed. So all of yesterday was spent down at the police station making official reports. All part of the adventure of travelling I guess. And at least I still have most of my money and my passport :-)

Anyway, in spite of this minor adventure, I am having a wonderful time. The first night I stayed in a "real" hotel before finding this most wonderful backpackers hostel "Makuto Guesthouse" in the El Albayzin, the old charming Moorish section.

I´ve been here ever since and its great just chilling out in hammocks with travellers from all over the world and then heading into town at night for tapas and flamenco.

Granada is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited.

Its an old Moor town, so is, even today, an interesting mix of Christianity and Islam. There are Arabic baths and catherdrals and spice markets. All in a quaint city with rolling hills and gypsy quarters, with ALHAMBRA - the old sultan palace/gardens - overlooking and almost protecting the city.

I´m off to Valencia tomorrow (fingers crossed. I have been told I may have to wait a week before I can get a train or bus ticket) and will then attempt to find a way across to Mallorca to catch up with Cindy and Andy, Naomi, Sadie and Luke, and Cousin Sacha.

UPDATE: Later that night, an East London mate I made at the hostel, Jordan, took me to visit a few of the local gay bars and nightclubs. Drag queens and all! The gay scene in Granada, particularly the club (which name eludes me...) comes highly recommended!

Hi Hans
It is great to keep up with your travels, even if you did get your camera and wallet stolen. Bastards. I guess you would have had an interesting insight into how a group of strangers, presumably from a variety of countries, react to being innocent victims of crime, and how the Spanish police responded (hopefully helpfully and efficiently).
Good luck with your stay in Valencia. Remember Team NZ is there training there for the Americas Cup, so you should be able to track down some compatriots if you feel the inclination.
When you catch up with Sacha say hi from Jen and me.
Take care Murray xx
