Sat off for a 3 hour hike for the oasis, which is a small village at the bottom of the valley. There was a tough 15 minute uphill climb, and at the top of the climb were locals selling drinks and fruits. Tried the cactus fruits. There were two different colors - green and red. Both tasted like kiwi, except the green was real sour and the red was pleasantly sweet. Ordered a Colca sour as well, made of the green cactus plant. Not fantastic as the Pisco sour Marco made us.
Continued our trail where a guy from the group in front of us dropped his phone down the face of the canyon slope. Cheeky, our tour guide, raced down the slope to retrieve it for him
It wasn't long before we reached the oasis, and the scenery got better as we were approaching. The face of the canyon cliffs were majestic.
We arrived at the oasis at around 11.20am. There was a swimming pool which I jumped in right away. The water was cold but soon got used to it. Took a shower after and got ready for lunch. Got served the usual chicken soup as appetizer. The main was alpaca meat with rice, awesome.
Finished up Steve Jobs' book over the afternoon. An inspiring read.
Dinner was a tad disappointing - pasta with sauce. The tea however, made up for it. Cheeky plucked some leaves from a nearby plant which smelt abit like lemongrass, and tasted great.
Also booked our mules for tomorrow morning that would take us up back to the top of the canyon, saving our bodies from a tiring climb. At a cost of 45 soles each.
