Took the 10.10am flight from Foz do Iguacu to Rio de Janiero. We arrived at around noon. Took awhile for our airport pick up to arrive, who was a fine white Brazilian lady who happens to run tours in the city as well. We plan to do a favela tour with her one of these days. She was really informative and briefly introduced the sights round the city as we drove towards Copacabana, where our hostel, El Misti Rooms was situated.

Checked in and proceeded to find some food as we were famished. There was a Sunday market at the adjacent Ipanema beach so we took a stroll along the streets there. It was a makeshift market located at a park. There were stalls selling all sorts of touristy goods. We also had our share of tourist-priced local street food at $7.50 each.

We walked towards to famous beach afterwards, and started to stroll towards the two brothers mountain as a 5pm concert was being held at the beach today. After some walking, we saw large tents and stages set up for Nivea. The concert is sponsored by them, and they gave out freebies (hats, balloons, water). We stayed almost an hour to listen to some great Brazilian music. Mesmerizing when the crowd around us sang along.

The sun soon set, and we strolled back along the coast. Had a dodgy encounter at the Copacabana beach when a man approached and seemed to want to mug us. Luckily we backed away from him fast enough.

Looking forward to some great time in Rio!
