Had a nice breakfast at the hostel before heading out at around 9am. We went straight to Cerro Santa Lucia (Santa Lucia Hill) which was used as a fort in olden times. The hill was situated right in the middle of the city, and contained olden buildings and forts that had a charm to it. We hiked up to the top of the hill for views of the city.

Thereafter, we headed for Costanera, the biggest shopping mall here for some outdoor wear shopping. We took the metro from Santa Lucia to Tobalaba, and had little difficulties finding the place. It was huge, probably bigger than any mall back home. We did not purchase any outdoor ware as prices were steep. It was a high end mall. We went for coffee at Dunkin donuts which sucked, and proceeded to the supermarket Jumbo to stock up on fruits and food. The supermarket was amazingly huge and probably had everything needed stocked up.

After, we took the metro back to Baquedano, and walked to the ice cream palour 'le rose' for their famous rosé ice cream. We had that and 2 other Chilean fruit flavors. Not too shabby for 6usd.

Went back to the hostel around 1 for a rest after that. And headed for the San cristobal hill at around 3. The hill is the highest in Santiago and on clear days, gives amazing views of the city with the Andes as a backdrop. We took 40 minutes to reach the summit, where a Virgin Mary statue and a church await. Nice views were obscured by the fog, but it was a good viewpoint nevertheless. We passed on the furnicular and hiked back down, stoping by a roadside stall for Completos (hot dogs) and churrito Italianos (burger with thin beef with guacamole). The latter tasted superb.

Headed back to the hostel thereafter, and made dinner around 8.30pm (we knocked out on bed after returning at 6).

Got up at 6 to book the hotel for El Chalten. Good breakfast followed. Left hostel around 8.40am, took the metro to U. De Santiago, where the central bus station was. And purchased a return ticket to Valparaiso. An exciting day awaits

15 May 2013, Condor Bus to Valparaiso
