Arrived at Santiago Airport at around 11.45am. It was a 3 hour odd flight to Auckland, 2 hour stopover, and a 11 hour flight to Santiago. Jetlagged max, and can't get a good rest on flight. Movies on flight was good though. Had ARGO and inception!

Our driver from hostel met us at the airport and got us to the hostel in no time. Rado hostel impressed. It's a newly built hostel in the famous bellavista district, and won the 2013 new hostel award. Looked more like a hotel really. We stayed in room 302, 4 beds for us. And there was a rooftop garden and kitchen area.

Soon we set off to find the Banco Security ATM machine, which is the only one in Chile without the 5000CLP admin charge according to some reviews online. Found one right in the middle of the financial district and heart of city.

The architecture style here is as mixed as in some cities in Eastern Europe, like Belgrade and Sarajevo. Next to some colonial buildings was some communist era style apartments. Not exactly pretty but speaks lots of the country's painful history.

We went for a free walking tour starting from the plaza de armas (arms square) where the founding of the city began. Johnny was an informative guide from Scotland, and shared many interesting facts of Santiago along the way: 'coffee with legs' where short skirted girls serve coffee in the financial district, and 'happy minutes', where coffee girls strip naked for a random 1 minute in the day. Didn't get to see them though :p

Tried the street food 'nutz-4-nutz' which was sugar coated peanuts. It was good. And after that, we had a break at a cafe where we tried the appArently famous cocktail 'pisco sour', which pretty much sucked from a unanimous vote.

We ended our tour near the San Christophe hill and headed to a Chilean restaurant for some local eats. Luckily we only ordered 2 mains, they were huge. First dish was beef sirloin chunks with eggs and onions on top of French fries, and the second was pig meat wrapped with pig skin, served with spicy mashed potato. The dishes were around 10usd each.

Went back to the hostel after. I zonked out at 8pm.

Woke up in the middle of the night coz it was too cold. (3deg outside). Put on some thermal wear and it was cozy. Breakfast was served at 7.30. Awesome toasts, ham, yoghurt, and orange juice.
