How do all?
Thursday 7th February
So we arrived in Mission Beach after a 2 hr bus journey from Cairns at 11am.
Greyhound bus was grand - tho apparently (according to short arse Laurie) the seats are uncomfortable due to her head not reaching the head rests......ha ha ha, made me laugh all morning that one!! Glad we only had a short journey today - as we have the whole way to Melbourne to get to - and its a bloodly long way, so we intend to stop off as much as we can!!
So Ron (our hostel man) picked us up in his camper at the bus stop - and we got a good intro into Mission Beach - not a big place and very few sights (think the size of Killyvilly!) but beach is gorg! Checked in ok at hostel and got twin room (which kinda resembles a prison cell) but is nice and air-conditioned so we have no complaints!
Staying at a smaller hostel (max. 30 people) is nice - very family orientated and everyone friendly. Ron got us to the Kitchen for a paw-paw (fruit like thing) which was yum (tho Laurie decided to pass on, even though Balloo sings about it in the Jungle Book!!)....
So there was BBQ on that night -so had to hit the supermarket (only shop in town practically) and buy some beef for our first Aussie Barbie! (we were like two excited kids!!).......then decided to check out the town centre!! What a laugh........took us 2 mins and that was a round trip!!! I love it!! Although we are cut off entirely from the outside world....Laurie Lou not happy as she has no signal on phone, no internet (Hostel one not working) and seemingly now no life...............lucky she lives in the 21st Century.........!!! I think its kinda quaint and makes us real travellers, people not being able to reach us!!!
So hit the beach for some sunbathing...............no worries about finding a beach - we were the only 2 people on a 5 mile beach.........so finally got to try that skinny dipping thing always talked about - sorry you's missed it! (And no we are not posting pics!!For our eyes only as they say..) Managed to pass the afternoon there
Back for the Barbie.......good chance to meet the rest of our group at the hostel - very multi-cultured - dutch/australian/english/german and the lovely irish!! Barbie was great - good steaks and good wine!! Conversation revolved around killing 'roos' etc - thank god we had ate before this topic!! Think we had very horrifed faces on us - we are humane!!!!
Passed rest of night watchin tv (American sitcoms - sex and the city - YEAH!!) and chitchatting before heading back to our freezer for a sleep! (lovely and cold.....Laurie even had her fleece on!!)
Ta ta for now (thought we'd update as our brains tend to frizzle in the sun and we forget things easily....nothing to do with the wine consumed every night!!)
Lots of Love
