G'Day Mate!
This lil blog entry is coming direct from Perth Airport!  Just arrived and thought we'd briefly update all you avid readers of the blog with what happened in Singapore!
But before we get to that, let's take it back a step or two...So when we last left you, we were heading out for Sangsom Buckets and good craic! And both were had.  Although just to warn all you...drinking through a straw from a sandbucket will have drunken's not cool and it's not classy! But then neither are we!!

Ended up talking God only knows what to Mick round in Our Bar and stumbled home to find we had a lodger / intruder in our prison cell.  Just as we turned on the light this humungus crocodile family creature (ok, ok...a gecko) was running down the wall and went under the bed.  Screaming down with, we decided to take action!  Or rather Laura took action while Joy stood on one leg dictating, pointing and screaming (You know what i'm talking about Big Vic!) So after security walked by and saw the room tore apart and the bed in the air, we finally managed to capture the little twerp and with the help of Joys trainer he next found himself squashed flat on the wall and wrapped in a grave of tissue paper!  Drama now over, we fell into bed.

Sunday 27th January

So with slight hangovers (but not the God awful ones we were fearing) we got up at 2pm and hit the beach for the last day of serious sunbathing.  About 1/2 hour into the tanning session, skies opened once again and we had to flip flop ourselves down the beach to the nearest shelter.  Sunbathing over, we hit starbucks and spent most of our remaining money.
Sunday night was our "usual" favourite..dinner on the beach and then a Cheerio drink at Micks.  Early enough night.
Monday 28th January

Basically a boring enough day like always when you are travelling. Morning spent sitting on our backpacks to try and squeeze everything in.  Think the clothes have expanded in the heat as we haven't bought anything!  Hit the airport which has to be said is the most gorgeous airport in the world!!  It's like a beach hotel resort with open air spaces, palm trees, and the biggest bathroom you've ever seen!

So now finished with Thailand we can conclude....

It's been interesting...especially sitting back and people watching!

Old fat Western Men + Skinny Thai Girl = Love's Young Dream!! (Yeah...More like = $$)

Thai people on the most part are not the friendliest bunch of people...unless you're a man!

Sex sells!

So if this type of thing is right up your alley I believe British Airways have a special on at the moment!!  On a more serious note, we did enjoy Thailand and we are certainly glad we've got to experience it.  Everyone should give it a try but always remember..."Lookie for free, but Nookie for fee"

Onto Singapore...

Flight to Singapore was only 1.30 hrs so all went smoothly and we arrived alive and kicking!

As usual, taxi ride to the hostel was eventful. Very friendly driver...pity he wasn't very smart! Drove round the same block about 20 times and couldn't find the hostel and wouldn't listen to us when we tried to tell him where to go!  So 30 mins later, we finally got to the hostel, and what was it like...well as we're starting to become accustomed was located slap-bang in the middle of the redlight district and was a dirty hole. Why us?!  So 9pm at night we braved out for food. Don't know what the hell we ate...but we ate it!  Scrambled back to hostel for a bit of refuge.  We weren't tired at all and lights out are at 10pm so we were bored stiff and sat reading until the wee hours of the morning.

So picture the finally tired we decided to hit the just get settled into not-the-comfiest-of-beds and then you realise the air conditioning isn't working, no curtains on the windows, party outside with the hoe's still happening and MRT train whizzing past 50 yards away. Five hours later, still no sleep...Joy cracked Big Style!! (Gracie, do you remember when she almost assaulted the psycho neighbour...THIS WAS WORSE!) I found her in the hallway rocking by herself mumbling about the Holiday Inn! I would have laughed but I feared for my safety!) She said she took a panic attack and had to get out as she was tired, sweaty, smelly (although that could have been the German bed buddy) and the air con that was supposed to be keeping her cool did nothing but splutter dirty dust into her bake! By the way, the air con machine was literally 4 inches above her head as she was on the top bunk). You all know Joy's secret 20 min rule right? No?! Within exactly 20 mins of her realising she is either hungry or tired, she must be either fed or asleep! So guess who then had to be stuck up on the top! Two hours later Joy wakes feeling slightly better and Laura wakes with the flu!

Tuesday 29th January

Deciding to explore the city (and get out of the hostel) we got up early as we only had 2 days in Singapore. Got into the center and booked a few sightseeing tours to get the most out of our time. Managed to cover Little India, Chinatown, some of the 100 shopping malls they have and took a tour of the full city in The Duck, which is basically a boat shaped bus that transforms into a boat for a river tour as well.

In the evening ventured over to Sentosa Island and saw the Songs of the Sea show on the Beach.  It's basically a great light, water and fire show.  After that we got dropped off at Bugis Village and had some food and a look about the upbeat area, wanting to make sure we were well and truly tired before we ventured back to the hostel in Geylang!
That night went slightly better as air con now fixed and we slept sound!
Wednesday 30th January
After a bit of a lie in we hit the city again to do a little more exploring.  After a walk about the center we decided to hit Sentosa Island again for a luge ride, Skyride and a cable car ride. Definitely fun stuff!  After that we made our way down to Clarke and Boat Quay for a river cruise and then sunset dinner in one of the many riverside cafes.
Thursday 31st January
Getting into bed at 12.30am we decided to set our alarms for 5.30 am to get to the airport to catch flight to Perth. However God had other plans regarding our sleep!  Just too darn excited to contemplate sleeping, I think we tortured our Japanese roomie as we are not exactly the quietest pair in the world and fancied a little chat about "The Great and Wonderful OZ!" So finally settled down about 1.30am to sleep but in the end, after 45 mins of nothing but coughing and spluttering, I decided to go to the common room and not sleep...sleep was for the plane!!
Pleasantly suprised as the flight to Perth wasn't even 5 hours long and managed to catch 2 hours sleep!  And here we are now....about to get a taxi to Nuala's apartment (Colm's sister who we're imposing on for the next 3 days!)
Tune in for the next episode friends!!  Miss it...Miss Out!!
J&L - Conquering the world one step at a time!!
Definitely managed to cover all of the sights so although we recommend Singapore, we wouldn't want to stay anymore than the 2 full days here.  People there are all very friendly and pleasant and apart from the redlight district, it's a beautiful city and we didn't find ourselves feeling nervous at any point. It was a very safe city and the best part is...they all speak English!!
