Show trip route
- Went to the Swarovski Kristallwelten... aka the Swarovski Crystal World. I was kind of expecting crystal statues like in the Swarovski shop next to the hotel, but no... it is full of weirdass modern art... such as a "giant moving playing colourful accordion", "2 top halves of store dummies spinning around on a dinner table"... a walking set of legs... I won't say anymore so that I don't ruin it for you... but in future, I would pass... but hey, the Innsbruck pass covered it!
- Took the Nordkette cable car (which consists of a funicular (a train which can go uphill/downhill with all its carriages still all horizontal)) to almost the top of the Hafelekarspitze mountain. Pretty good view of the city of Innsbruck from the top... not as nice as the Schilthorn though as much of the snow was sloppy and dirty with mud..
- Went to the Bergisel stadium where they have the ski jump that has been used in 2 Olympic games... coz it was covered by the stupid pass. There's a good view of the city of Innsbruck as well from up there... and it's pretty scary what the skiers have to face as they shoot down the slope... lucky for them though, if they overshoot the ramp, they end up at the town's cemetery...muahahaha. According to the facts Lang stated here, the skiers can fly through the air for 45 mins... HAHAHAHA...
- Went back to the Swarovski shop next to our hotel and bought a crystal bear holding up a balloon for the souvenir cupboard back at home... Lang also bought some crystal jewelry.
<Lang's Extended Version>
We wanted to cover as many of the big sites as we could today to make full use of our Innsbruck card, so at 9am this morning, we were on our way to Swarovski Crystal World, 30 minutes outside of Innsbruck and constructed in 1995 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Swarovski Crystal, of course..
Once we had our tickets and entered the underground chambers, we quickly made our way through the displays of art. Yes, modern art isn't our type of thing, so it wasn't long before we were out in their show room where you can spend copious amounts of money on crystal goods such as watches, sunnies, necklaces, bangles, earrings, bags, pens and of course the Swarovski figurines.. We found that the prices here were the same as the other store, you would have thought that it'd be somewhat cheaper at the factory.. Oh well, we left without anything again, deciding to get something at the store close to our hotel later on.
The bus came to pick us up to take us back to Innsbruck at 11.30, so after a brief toilet stop and also to pick up our jackets, we headed to the funicular station for our ride up to Hafelekarspitze.
The alp was not as high as the Shilthorn, so naturally the snow at that height had already started to melt.. Nevertheless, that didn't stop the skiers out there having fun - or us for that matter! Yes, we had another snowball fight or two. Mind you, we were the only tourists going up on the cable car for some reason, so they probably thought we were weird
After about an hour out there, we headed back down to head to our third and final destination for the day - the Olympic ski jump stadium at Bergisel. I think by this time we had already seen Innsbruck from all angles, so didn't spend much time here.
We were totally exhausted from all the travel, so went back to the hotel and rested for a while. That night we tried another schnitzel, this time at WienerWald.. It was just as nice as the night before.
