After sitting in traffic for 8 hours on the greyhound bus on Sunday with the crazy guy from Vietnam I thought I'd be relieved to get to L.A. Got to admit I was scared more than relieved. First impressions - This place is a shit hole. We got off the Greyhound bus and had to catch a bus to the hostel we were staying at. There are more tramps and homeless people than I've ever seen anywhere in the world. It seems more like a third world country than the worlds super power. After some abuse from a crazy lady on the bus we got to Hollywood Boulevard and found the hostel we had booked on the internet. Turns out we couldn't stay there because we're not students and the Vietnamese guy is over 35. What difference that should make I don't know but I've never been turned away from a hostel for such a pathetic reason as that. Wouldn't get this problem in Vegas.

So we walked down Hollywood Boulevard and found a different hostel. Now maybe I was being nieve but I was expecting Hollywood Boulevard to be a bit glamorous like you see on the T.V but its just another street littered by litter and the occasional homeless person going through a dustbin. The hostel we ended up spending the last two nights in is in a great location opposite the Kodak theatre (where the Oscars are held) unfortunately it reminded me of a drug rehab centre/prison cell rather than a hostel and have been sleeping with one eye open the last couple of nights.

Yesterday I met up with Joey (friend who I met in New Zealand on the kiwi experience) and we were going to go on a tour around Hollywood but by the time we had ridden the train forward and backwards several times trying to find the right stop it was too late so we ended up going to the Chinese theatre to watch the new James Bond film Casino Royale.

Today I've moved out of the prison block which I somehow survived to a nicer hostel just off Hollywood Boulevard with Joey.
