Been in Vegas a few days now and I'm glad to say it's all I expected and more!

I left Fiji at 11.30pm on Saturday and landed in L.A 3pm the same day. So because of the time difference I ended up arriving before I left, which is kind of weird. I was planning to stay in L.A for a night then head to Vegas the next day but the cheapest accommodation I could find in L.A was $50 for the night so I thought screw it, I can't wait any more and headed straight to Vegas. I got on the greyhound with some very shady looking characters (a couple who I'm sure must have just been released from prison) and made the 6 hour bus trip to Vegas. I must admit even though it was 2am by the time I arrived, I had only had about three hours sleep in two days, and I couldn't check in to the place I was staying at till 3pm, I couldn't wait to get go check out the casino's on the strip.

From the moment I arrived in Vegas I've been walking around with this stupid smirk on my face because I'm finally here. Now I've seen, heard and read quite a lot about Vegas but I still wasn't prepared for it. At first I found it kind of odd that the strip was so quiet on a Saturday night because I was expecting it to be packed. But as soon as I set foot inside the Bellagio it made sense why it was so dead outside because everyone was inside gambling and drinking. The only way I can describe Vegas is overwhelming. The first time I walked through the Bellagio I had to sit down. Not because I'm lazy and unfit. Well not just because  of that. But also because of how over the top and extravagent everything is. Its an overload to the senses. The casino's themselves are so massive that I still haven't got used to it yet and trying to find the exit is a mission in itself. Which is my excuse for spending so long in them. I have still only been inside a handful of casinos and I can't describe it. You really have got to see it for yourselves to believe it. I ended up playing poker in the Bellagio until I could check into my room. Saw Gus Hansen playing poker in there probably winning or losing in a few hours more than most people earn in a year.

When I got into my room I was shocked again. When I booked it on the internet I looked for the cheapest place available in Vegas. It costs $25 a night and was advertised as no frills accommodation. With some of the hostels I've stayed in roughly the same price for sharing with 8 people I wasn't expecting much so couldn't believe it when I walked into the room with two king size beds, a T.V and en-suite all to myself! I actually thought I was put in the wrong room at first and if this is no frills I can't imagine what the places on the strip which charge $300 a night must have but I can't see what else you would need in your room or why in gods name you would pay that much. But then that's Vegas I suppose the statement "over the top" was created for a place like this. Made good use of my "no frills" accommodation by sleeping for 16 hours the first night.

With drinks absolutely free (minus a $1 tip for the stunning waitress') and gambling around the clock I'm in no rush to leave this place. I've always said that all cities are pretty much the same all over the world. Vegas is the exception. Even if you don't gamble there's still loads of shows and stuff you can see and do.

Up until now the poker's been going pretty steady and am up about $400 so far. It should have been more than that the in the first session but I lost a $500 pot to some guy going all in with A6 on a flop 346 I called with 99 and he hit a 6 on the turn to make him trips. Not much you can do about that though. Still a long way to go to make those millions yet...
