So anyway, our last day in Franz Josef, Katy, John and I did a walk around the bottom of the glacier whilst everyone else was climbing it. Quite an impressive sight to see a glacier protruding between mountains into the valley below. On the evening we all had a "few" drinks and did kareoke
We left Franz Josef on Sunday and headed towards Wanaka. The drive was absolutely stunning and although the weather was crap it just added to the whole effect. The roads wound around the bottom of the Southern Alps with mist hanging just above the tree tops and waterfalls everywhere, it was like a scene from Jurrasic Park. Wanaka is a lot like Queenstown only on a smaller scale. The place is built by a lake and there are lots of activities available. Everyone on the bus decided to only stay there one night and on the evening a few of us were planning on going to the cinema but seems like everyone else had the same idea so it was too busy.
Before we left Wanaka yesterday we stopped off at a place called Puzzling world which was a place with all sorts of cool illusions like a room which is built so it looks like you get bigger and smaller as you move around it (see photos) and a life size maze. After that came the time I was dreading - doing a bungee.
Before I came to New Zealand I always wanted to do a skydive but a bungee was something I never thought I would do because I imagined it would be much more petrifying. I was right
"3-2-1 go". I just stood there frozen to the spot. What the hell am I doing? I thought there's absolutely no way I can do this. Then I figured I can't back out now either with everyone watching and cheering me on (much appreciated guys). But what eventually made me do it was the fact that a ten year old girl had done it just before me and I don't think I could have lived it down walking back off that bridge getting shown up by a ten year old girl. The guy counted down again and I started going forward realising it was too late to stop myself my stomach hit my throat and I screamed my head off. Pretty sure I may have blacked out for a second as well
Afterwards when we arrived in Queenstown a few of us went up the hillside in a Gondola where Cheryl did a bungee. When I was watching it I was thinking how much worse that one seemed than the one I did earlier on in the day. Pretty much everyone on our bus went out last night with our bus driver L.J and ended up having a great night.
Today me and Emer went horse riding which was about as extreme as I was going to be getting with a hangover and involved very little input from me as the horse must have walked the same track a gizillion times. At one point we started trotting but a woman almost fell off (yeah O.K so did I) so we had to go back to walking pace. The majority of people went to do a Canyon swing which I might do one day but it's supposed to be even worse than a bungee. Unfortunately my money is also beginning to run out after doing so much the last few weeks. Worth every penny though, it just means that when I finish this kiwi experience it's going to be proper budgeting time which is alright because I'll be in Fiji this time next week and will have plenty of time to save money doing absolutely nothing on the beach.
