So here I am in Japan at long last. I must admit yesterday it seemed a bit surreal and today it still hasn't really sunk in that Im the furthest away from home Ive ever been in my life. Although thats pretty obvious when you look around and cant understand a single written word whether it be the name of a shop, in an advertisement, even this computer is in Japanese and am selecting most things from memory although luckily I can type in English.

The flight over here was awesome and didn't drag at all, gotta hand it to Richard Branson he knows how to take care of his customers. You had about 30 films and programs to choose from so watched five episodes of peep show and a few films. The one thing I was dreading was the landing and was expecting the same agonising pain in my ears like a bomb had been let off inside my head which I had when the plane landed coming back from Malia 01 - on way to airport
01 - on way to airport
. But it was completely pain free which was just aswell because I dont think I could have managed to do anything if my head had exploded like it did before.

When I had to find the train from the airport to where I am staying I didn't realise it was so far away. It only cost 1000 yen which is about a fiver so I thought it would be about a ten minute journey. A number of times I thought I was on the wrong train but figured I couldn't do much about it. I also nearly shat myself everytime a train went past going the other direction at about a million miles an hour and about an inch away from the window. An hour and a half later (and the last stop) it pulled into Ueno.

The first thing that hit me was the people. Although this is in Tokyo it isn't the main part (I think Tokyos divided into different sections) so I think I was expecting it to be a little less crowded. This place reminds me of London more than anywhere else so god knows what the main part of Tokyo is like.

I found my hotel pretty easily considering that all the road signs I could see were in Japanese but the lady behind the desk said I couldn't check in until 3pm, it already felt like Id been up about four days straight (for anyone who doesn't know me I like to sleep - a lot) so I ended up having to wait a couple of hours which was when I found McDonalds 02 - How do they get off the ground
02 - How do they get off the ground
. I know pretty tragic I fly half way around the world and the first meal I have is the same thing I could of picked up ten minutes from my house. One thing I didn't realise was that it had a smoking section and I was sat right in the middle of it. It seemed like the place was on fire. I mean I couldn't see my hand in front my face. Still I didn't care I had my Big Mac.

Still only 1pm I went and found a park and ended up having a nap for an hour. Probably not the best idea I know with all my stuff still on me but I couldn't stay awake any more. To be honest if it was Bristol I probably would have woke up and all my stuff would have been gone along with the clothes on my back but I dont get that impression over here. One thing I did notice in my now gormless state, considering how many people there are in this part of Japan, is how tidy it is and I couldn't find a single bin anywhere

When I finally got into my room it was about 5pm and I fell asleep until now which is why Im up at 6am. Thats what jet lag does for you. Anyway thought Id just let you all know I made it and will upload the photos Ive taken.
