In Foster, we stopped for information on Wilsons Prom before driving the last 60km to Tidal River in bright sunshine. Wilsons Prom is definitely worth visiting. The scenery is incredible and the hiking opportunities abundant. Unfortunately, we only had one day, so we did a small walk to Tidal River Lookout. It was very pleasant and exciting as we "bumped" into a wallaby and another wombat on top of the outlook point (you can imagine Noble's happiness to see another wombat)
We then hurried to Whisky Beach to catch a glimpse of the sunset - it was really only a glimpse as it happened so fast and courtesy of the wombats, we were late. What an afternoon finished off with yummie cup noodles and an early night (only disturbed by some small animal (I think a frog) roaming in our camper).
Despite the "frog", we slept quite well and set off the next day to a morning bushwalk at Lilly Pilly Gully (in an unsuccessful search for a koala bear which was missing from our "Spot all Australian icon animals" list). After the two hour walk, we left Wilsons Prom in search for gas and a coffee shop. Both searches turned out a bit difficult as it was ANZAC Day (where OZ and NZ remember the dead of WWI and WWII - a day when it is better not to reveal your German origin ... not that it gets violent but somehow it doesn't feel right).
We stopped in Leongatha for a brilliant brunch at the "Gate 9 cafe". The sandwiches and coffee were delicious but the cheese cake was just incredible. It reminded us of the cheese cake in Little Hanoi which had been benchmark! Together with a brilliant and sunny day, our mood was just great ... but the fall from grace is imminent ... ;) ...
