We're heading into winter here in Melbourne. As a result people are wearing boots...
Now, anyone who's known me for longer than 20 minutes will be aware that I suffer from advanced EBAS (Excessive Boot Acquisition Syndrome - a bit of a misnomer as there's really no suffering involved).
At present, having been deprived of quality boot experiences for a year, I am in grave danger of succumbing to temptation and indulging in a serious boot buying binge.
Being a list woman, I'm approaching this sensibly:
Reasons NOT to Buy Boots
1.They're expensive and I'm on a tight budget.
2.They won't fit in my backpack.
3.They don't match my limited travel wardrobe.
Reasons to Buy Boots
1. It's getting seriously cold here - I need the insulation.
2. Melbourne has more shoe shops per block than any other city I know and they ALL have boots prominently displayed in the window... I have very little willpower under duress.
3. People are shamelessly parading about around me, in boots, in the full knowledge that they are tempting me to stray... did I mention my poor willpower under duress?
4. Carrying a pack for a year has squashed me and high boots would make me taller again.
5. I bought NO boots in the year prior to this trip.
6. I have bought only one pair in the past year, on this trip.
7. As a result of reasons 5 & 6, I am seriously under quota.
8. I would feel WONDERFUL in them.
9. There are red ones in the shops and I only have three red pairs.
10. My 'award winning ankles' deserve to be displayed in the very best of beautiful boots...well, ok, it wasn't actually an award, but that weirdo in Belfast bought me a pint because he fancied my ankles... that's practically an ankle oscar ...isn't it???
11. I'm saving the equivalent cost of several pairs of boots by sponging off my Aussie friends!
12. There are boots here in a shade of green I've never seen before.
13. I would have a lot of fun wearing them.
14. I've gained too many kilos to buy clothes but my feet are their usual size.
15. I found a shop (the fabulous 'Sole Devotion') selling John Fluevog boots and they are very rare... well, you can't buy them in Sligo, anyway.
16. I have a duty, as a tourist, to support the economy of the countries I visit.
17. Exclusive designers of very expensive boots also need support.
18. The population of Melbourne is sick of listening to me discuss this dilemma... I need to take decisive action.
19. I WANT THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So folks, will sense prevail... answers on a postcard please...

Question Time
G'Day Lisa - firstly let me welcome you to Australia and I hope you have a wonderful time here. If I can help in any way please feel free to contact my office. Now let me say how impressed I am at you decision making skills - I can just see you at question time in the parliament, I dont believe I could ever win a debate against you .. and good on you for seeing the benefit of buying those boots and supporting the Australian economy.. so I say , go out girl and buy them. Oh what the heck buy two pairs ! and if you swing on past Canberra come on around to the Lodge (my home) and I would love to see your purchases and award winning ankles. Have you found any decent mash yet ? Kevin Rudd - PM
Necessary Purchase!!
Buy the feckin boots girl!! And get me a pair while your at it ;)
boot assistance
i could have a word with the shopkeeper in the place i go to and 'as if by magic', he might be able to help you out... it would be good financially as he lets you try things on, go and have an adventure in them and then bring them back without paying...brilliant!
Mr Benn
Boots advice!
OK I don't usually post a comment but I can see this is a dilema!!
1/ Great ankles like yours deserve great boots.
2/ You don't have any Australian boots.
3/ A girl on holiday needs to spoil herself.
4/ Nice girls always do as their Mother's suggest?
I rest my case. Just wish I was there to help you choose which colour!! Have fun XX
