We arrived at Gladstone airport a little early and as luck would have it a flight to Brisbane was about to leave in 10 minutes, just enough time for the Qantas check in guy to move us to this flight and change our connection from Brisbane to Sydney to an earlier flight- what a nice man, this meant we arrived mid afternoon and gave us half a day extra to explore and enjoy Sydney. This was good news as Sydney turned out to be a great place.
Over the 4 days we hit the main sites: Opera house, including a tour of the inside. It is not a white as it looks in most pictures the outside is quite yellow. I have a 100s photos of it from every angle if you are interested.
The harbor bridge which Lisa climbed on her own as it look quite high to me and it is very near lots of good pubs which needed to be visited as well, I also have lots of photos of this - the bridge that is. The Blue mountains, which took all day as they are quite large. The morning was spent listening to waterfalls as it was so foggy we could not see more than 10m, but by the afternoon it had become a sunny day and could finally see the "blue" of the blue mountains, the 3 sisters (some rocks), a vineyard, the Olympic village and lots of great views. We finished with a ferry trip back into Sydney - more pictures of the opera house and harbor bridge....
Manly Beach, another ferry ride, but this time to the other side of the harbor. We really liked this area and wished we could have spent a few extra days here as well, but did not want to sacrifice time in any other country. The beach is great a long with the weather and the obligatory surfers. We also had lots of nights out in the many night spots of the city - all very relaxed and good fun - just like the rest of the city. For example it is nice to go into the parks and see signs asking to walk on the grass. Also Sydney does not feel crowded and is very clean - nothing like London which is a good thing in my book. Our final day we got really lucky, the Chinese New Year Parade was on and it came straight past our hotel, the atmosphere was great with lot of people out to watch and the weather stayed nice (I got sun burnt). We wished we could have visited more Oz cities based on our positive experience with Sydney and the great people who are really friendly. I was also please nothing tried to bite/sting either of us. Off to New Zealand.

Hi guys, just been catching up with your travels, glad it's all going well! You appear to have avoided the ridiculous amount of venomous or poisonous things in Oz which is always a bonus ;) Hong Kong looked fantastic by the way, definitely fancy a trip there. Obviously wouldn't compare with majestic skyline of Basingstoke but at least they've done their best.
Have fun in New Zealand! See ... show all
