Bangkok was a crazy city! Immediately after our bus arrived, we heard shouts of glee from the local taxi drivers as they saw us on the bus-they were getting ready to surround us with 'bargain' taxi prices. Fortunately, we found a better deal outside the bus terminal, and after haggling a bit about the price, we headed towards accomodations. We stayed in the backpacker area in one of the only places we could find that had cheap rooms left...it was kind of like a prison cell, but that was fine. In the city, we checked out many of the gorgeous Buddhist wats, as well as the Palace (despite some pretty slick touts), a huge weekend market (where Sebastian ate some black jelly drink...looked a lot like big leeches), and even a kick-boxing match (very entertaining, with intense drumming throughout the bouts, and 2 boxers left in stretchers!). We walked, rode tuk tuks, took the ultra-modern sky train, and also took some river taxis.
Sebastian tries a giant fried grasshopper, one of an assortment of deep-fried critters. The Thai massages we enjoyed were so-so, but who can complain at 5USD!
