We arrive in Kyoto which will serve as our base for the next 5 days. During our stay here, we're able to see loads of temples, walk around Kyoto, as well as do various day trips nearby. The group splits up on a few occasions. Sebastian's family checks out Nara on one day, while Sebastian and Fiona go to Koya-san, and Matt heads over to check out Hiroshima for a day. Sebastian and Fiona also do a day trip to Enryaku-ji temple, while the rest spend some time checking out Himeji castle.

Re-visiting Fushimi-Inari Shrine (the fox shrine) is a great pleasure, and really fun to walk through the thousands of torii. The Gold temple, as well as Sanjusangendo are also nice to see again.

New temples for Fiona and Sebastian include Chion-in, with its massive gate, as well as the bright orange Heian Shrine. The philosopher's walk also took us down to peaceful Honen-in temple.

In Kyoto, everyone had a chance to enjoy some karaoke, shopping, Geisha and Maiko-chasing (paparazzi style), as well as a touristy sampling of various Japanese art forms, including fascinating gagaku dance (old court dancing). Tasty eats were also to be had, including more sushi and various Japanese cocktails tried for the first time!
