My name is Fintan Gray, I'm 34 and I come from the open-air lunatic asylum known as the city of Belfast. I moved to London in 2003 to work as a teacher. My hobbies are travel, football and learning languages. I support Manchester United and as soon as there's an all-Ireland football team I'll support it too. I speak passable French and recently I passed my Initial Level Spanish Certificate. I'm also quite good at talking shite, mainly in incoherent English on a Friday night. My dream would be to live somewhere near the mountains and the Med, spending my weekends driving around in a VW Combi with Penelope Cruz's non-materialistic younger sister.

I caught the travel bug about six years ago when I went to various parts of Australia, South East Asia & the Indian sub-continent. I was in the Himalayas when the Twin Towers came down and, about a week later, I learned that it wasn't a wind-up after all End Of The Road
End Of The Road
. Since then I've been around, mainly to European countries, but also to North Africa and, last summer, the Middle East. I found Jerusalem like Belfast in many respects, except Jerusalem was more easy-going and there were fewer religious nuts.

I spent a couple of weeks in Calgary, Alberta in the summer of 2004. My friend Ian and his buddy Jamie brought me camping in the Rockies and got me all wound up about bears. Later, at Swan's bar in Inglewood, tales of these hilarious wind-ups were told at my expense. I look forward to being the object of this sophisticated type of Canadian humour once again!

The photo above was taken in Basel, Switzerland at the end of my first solo cycling trip at Easter 2006. I covered about five hundred miles through five European countries. I found the cycling really tough going at times but, on the whole, I really enjoyed that holiday. My favourite part of it was getting a Thai massage in Freiburg after my body had seized up with pain.

Giving names to bicycles seems a bit daft but I've called mine Wild Goose. May God bless her and all those who ride upon her. And may He strike down any thief who dares so much as look at her!
