I spent one night in Lima at a hostel in an old mansion at the heart of the city. My room was off of the rooftop garden from which you could see the rooftops of some of the grand churches in the area. In the main square (Plaza de Armas), in the morning, there were hundreds of people watching a concert of Andean music followed by a colorful parade with costumed groups representing different areas of Peru.

After having lunch and buying some provisions, I headed to the Cruz del Sur station to catch the 20-hour bus to Cusco.
