To get to Bolivia we took an overnight bus to La Quica on the Argentinian side. There were a load of Israelis on the bus, apparently they all go to Bolivia. They tend to travel in large groups, and travel once they have finished doing their army service. La Quica was a right dump, very third world and quite a contrast to other Argentinian towns I had been in. Met an english and an america and walked over to the border with them. Once we crossed the Argentine border we then had to cross into Boliva. Villazon was the Bolivian border town, which again wasnīt that nice and got out of there as fast as we could. However I did see a few Bolivian women in their traditional clothing which made it all worthwhile!
We really knew we were in Bolivia when we saw the bus to Tupiza (2.5 hour drive) it had these huge off road wheels, and no comforts whatsoever and didnīt smell particularly good! Landed in tupiza early in the morning. Tupiza is mainly a town where people go to the Salar de Uyuni from and is also famous for where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid got bumpe off Bolivia Argentina Border

. I was surprised by this fact, that Butch Cassidy managed to even travel down to South America in those days.  We were kind of wrecked after all the bus trips so we decided to spend two nights there. The town didnīt particularly appeal to me first, although Sunday is never a good day to arrive anywhere in South America, but the people there were lovely, especially the guy running the hostel so it grew on me.  Went horse-riding yet AGAIN, as it was only 10 bucks for a three hour horseride. It was nearly better than in Salta as we were going through huge canyons and valleys. I felt like I was in arizona with all the red rocks.  Ferg was alot happier this time around as he got a much bigger horse than in Salta. Much to the guides pain, we did alot of galloping through the valleys, he had a rather uncomfortable horse so wasnīt very happy! Now I know the spanish for stop at least! Although he did race me back to the stables on the way back and won. Mind you Iīm not particularly comfortable gallopėng along train tracks with people walking everywhere! Met a good few backbackers in Tupiza who were heading to the Salar. Tupiza is apparently a better place to got to the Salt Flats from as they bring you through the Andes and you get to see lots of different scenery. Iīm getting excited about the trip, it will be nice to be toured around the place for four days!! Interent connection is really slow in Bolivia so far, so Iīll add photos once I get to bigger citys such as Sucre or La Paz.
