Rio de Janeiro (The marvellous city)

Well I finally have got some time at a computer to start blogging so here goes....Arrived in Rio after a long flight from London after a pit stop at Sao Paulo. We stayed in Copacabana as its one of the safter places to stay and is by the beach. Rio is a huge city, nestled between the mountains and the sea which makes for a nice backdrop! We decided the best way of see Rio was taking a tour around as the favelas can be dodgy, so we did a trip around to the Sugar Loaf, Christ the Redeemer, Marcana (football stadium), Carnaval street and tried on some extremely tacky Carnaval costumes. After that there isnīt a whole lot to do in Rio except louge around on the beach which we managed to do on Ipanema (where all the hotties hang out apparently) and Copacabana. The beach itself is nice, plenty of sellers hawking their wares. The water seemed a bit dirty as it had a greenish tinge (not sure if it was naturally that way or not). Went to a street party in Lapa on the Friday night which was quite the experience, have no photos though as its not the best place to bring a flash camera. Rio is a little dodgy overall, but we didnīt have any problems. Main thing is to keep off the beach at night and carry as little around with you as possible. I havenīt been used to seeing such poverty after living in Ireland and the US so it was food for thought. Then we moved on to Curitiba for the next leg of our trip.....
