Mt Maunganui - surf-central for NZ, and The Coromandel with beautiful Cathedral Cove and the (in)famous Hot Water Beach.
I say infamous not cuz its dangerous, its cuz everyone knows about it. Secluded it is not!

In Whitianga, in the Coromandel, I stayed in the Cat's Pyjamas Backpackers.
Both places are highly recommended. Clean and a good atmosphere. What more do you want?

Free Massages? Yeah, that'd be nice. Oh well!
