In the last few days I became the local chook bus frequent flyer. No gold card here, just an ungodly uncomfortable seat and open doors & windows for air/con. Seven hours from Nung Rong to Ubon.

Stayed in Ubon for a night and left promptly for Khong Chiam the following morning. Only one local bus per day, so no option to be late and get the next one. Got the last seat (again) and three hour later I arrived in sleepy nowhere-land. Quick look around, check into guesthouse and after some dealing ended up with a cheaper room and motorbike rate for two days.

Rode out to Kaeng Tana National Park. Really nice river with rock formations. Walked out over two suspension bridges to an island in the middle of the rivet.

Bumped into a group of doctors and nurses from a nearby hospital enjoying their day off. Thai whiskey bottles aplenty and music turned up. Got invited over to talk (drink) with them for a while. It taught me one thing - dont end up in the local hospital! Left there after sunset and rode the dirt roads back to town.

Next day rode to Pha Taem National Park. Really cool waterfalls and great little remote villages. I dont think the small kids ever saw a white person before, because they were very exited! Also awsome views of the mighty Mekong!!!

Just at the end of town is the actual junction between the Mekong and Mun Rivers, known as the Two-Colour-River. Again fantastic views.

This area is definately worth visiting!
