My trip to San Francisco began at about 8.30am on Wednesday the 13th when I left my house for the airport.  Having left my packing to the very last minute, a 7.30am wake-up felt very early....... (Then again, 7.30am always feels very early to me!).

I chose to fly to the States on this occasion with V Australia, Virgin's new long haul International service.  Very cleverly, I chose to pay slightly extra to fly Premium Economy - a choice I highly recommend!  The seats are wider, with more leg room and greater recline; the service is great, with drinks pre take-off, pre dinner, with dinner, and, well, whenever you want from the open bar;  and the Entertainment system is fabulous.  I also appreciated the bottle of water and fantastic noise-reducing headphones.  All of this made the long flight almost bearable (I'm not really a fan of long-haul flights - they really are just a necessary evil).  After about 12hrs and 20mins, we arrived in LA, where I was the first through the whole immigration check, baggage collection and customs for the day.  I love priority baggage!  The next part of my trip to San Francisco was with American Airlines.  The wait in the airport almost did me in, but I managed to stay awake long enough to climb onboard and after a brief flight, I was in San Francisco, where I was reunited with Tera at the airport.

We headed directly to Tera's house in Pacifica, a little ocean-side city just south of San Francisco, where after a quick lunch, she kindly allowed me to crash out on her floor while she headed to work for the afternoon.  Crazily, it was only 1pm on Wednesday still, yet over 20hrs since I left home the same Wednesday morning.

When Tera returned at 7pm, she was greeted by a happily dozing Allison, just waking up.  Sitting up, I was amazed by the fact that there was still bright sunshine despite the time!  We enjoyed drinks on Tera's patio as the sun slowly set over the ocean in the ensueing hour.  There was a notable nip in the air, something I was to become familiar with!  After an amazing dinner cooked on Tera's BBQ and some chatting, I happily returned to the land of nod for about another 13-14hrs of sleep - what a champion sleeper I am!!  Well, it had been a VERY long day!
