We finished our Egyptian experience back where it all began, in the huge, sprawling metropolis of Cairo. We were reminded once again of how chaotically people can drive when they believe their lives are simply in the hands of god and have nothing to do with how they operate a vehicle. We took our lives in our hands by taking a taxi across town to visit the Khan El Khalili bazaar. On arriving at about 11pm the streets of the area were absolutely full either with cars or floods of people. We managed the weaving through moving cars to cross the roads and wandered up and down the bazaar, thankful that the selling process was slightly less forceful than our previous bazaar experiences (locals were shopping here too, you see). We spent an hour or so soaking up the atmosphere, with locals of all ages out celebrating Ramadan, shop keepers selling their wares, the scent of spices in the air and men smoking their shisha pipes in cafes. We even bargained for a few kitschy souvenirs, which ultimately were very cheap. Our taxi driver then thankfully got us safely back to our hotel, arriving very late (1.30am), however, due to the traffic jam we got stuck in on one of the multi-lane roadways. Well, it was peak hour! All in all, our time in Egypt was an amazing experience from which we will take away many happy memories. In time, we may even forget how hot it was!
