After it got dark, we went out for a night hike in the rainforest. This was special because we got to see which animals come out at night.  We took our flashlights and headed off to see what we might learn. With our guide leading the way, we scanned the darkness for whatever wildlife we could see.  When we turned off our flashlights, it was so dark, we couldn't even see our hand in front of our face.  The only glimmer of light came in small patches, where we could see the moonlit sky through the rainforest canopy. When we turned our "torches" back on, we could see huge spiders, cute tree frogs, sleeping birds, and even a dragon! As we neared the end of our walk, we heard rustling in the leaves.  We peered intently into the depths of the rainforest.  As we strained our eyes to see the white rat, we were suddenly being charged at by a kangaroo!  The kangaroo was coming right toward us, bounding swiftly through the trees!  As the kangaroo neared our small group, he suddenly changed directions and hopped away, back into the forest.  Although frightened, we were very excited to see the kangaroo and made our night hike very memorable.
