Lake Dyer Camp Ground

Although our trip to Hervey Bay was fantastic, there was one thing missing - our kids!

We decided it was time to saddle up for our next family adventure and headed off to the Lake Dyer caravan park (which is free for the first two nights). This quiet and peaceful camp ground sits just outside Laidley, only an hour from home but a whole world away from city life.

Before we set off, Mark was determined to fit the new alloy wheels he had bought for Milly the previous day. This was a challenging job (to say the very least) and after three hours of grunting, swearing, sighing, pushing, pulling and kicking - he was victorius! Milly looked a million bucks.(which is about how much we have spent on her at this point)

After an easy drive, we were pleasantly surprised to find the park well appointed with hot showers, a new children's playground (which was a godsend) gas BBQ's and friendly, efficient on-site managers.

We were given our pick of spots and chose an easy drive-through site overlooking Lake Dyer and surrounded by a lovely rural landscape.
The kids bolted straight for the playground as we set about building the annex and unpacking the cars.

The annex itself is simple enough but the dirt was like concrete and our tent pegs were bending like cheap Korean hatchbacks.

It was an insanely hot day and our bodies and patience were wilting in the midday sun (our weather vane read 36.9 degress).

Fellow caravanners again came to our rescue and offered the use of a solid hammer (which we have since added to our kit). Another lesson learned.

After the hard work was done it was time to kick back and relax. The kids roamed around like gypsies as we retreated into Milly's air-conditioned comfort

We took our inflatable raft out for a row on the lake and played a creative, homemade version of baseball as the heat of the sun disappeared and a clear night began.

Mark brought the television outside and we stretched out in our own private outdoor cinema for family movie night under the stars.

The next day was cooler and we just relaxed and enjoyed not having anything in particular to do. The kids played and we read until the early afternoon when we rolled up the circus and headed back to town.

Another weekend, another adventure and more wonderful memories to add to our collection :)
